]]>My images are reflections of an idyllic past, shot with nostalgia and yearning for a time of youth and innocence often characterized by my children.

These sweet, invented memories of epic childhood reflect my conflicted feelings around their imminent departure from home. The work celebrates the last moments of innocence, and mourns the loss of naiveté—and proximity—that is even now changing our mother-child relationship.

My choice of black-and-white medium and traditional darkroom printing allow me to express these conflicting emotions. I often make the shadows void of details or blow out highlights to give the sense that there is something hidden and possibly threatening or foreboding. These are the untold stories of this series. These black blacks and light highlights also illustrate the contradictory nature and intensity of my feelings.

Vestiges of my own southern childhood filter through with the choice of locations, which illustrate my view of the universal timelessness of coming of age and its effects on family.

]]>This series documents the world in a manner that transforms the subject into something quite different from reality. The work depicts situations, often mysterious, which draw the viewer into a narrative. In each piece, I invite the observer into this curious world. The emotions evoked are ambiguous will differ from viewer to viewer based on their own experiences.

]]>The history one encounters while wandering through the streets of Charleston, SC or exploring the historical overgrown ruins in the rural areas is instilled with a deep Southern charm. This collection of images provides a visual journey into the lush, beguiling Low Country.
The work in this series was commissioned by Hirsch Bedner and Associates in Atlanta, GA for artwork (approximately 200 hand printed pieces) to be hung in the luxury hotel The Sanctuary in Kiawah Island, SC.

]]>With this series, I am exploring the artistic juxtaposition of visual and written expression. My inspiration is the writings of 19th and 20th century poets and writers. I am portraying my interpretation of the verses which touch upon the universal themes of nature, dreams, identity, loneliness, and spirituality. The photographs create a moment of shared recognition between the author, the viewer and myself.

Reflecting Back

]]>The work in this series is all shot in my rearview mirror. Spending so much time driving around my kids, I would often glance back and see a secret world that no one was aware I was observing. I shot the first photograph when I caught a glimpse totally by accident and had my camera with me. I then carried it to all the mirrors which changed depending on where I was sitting. The result is an interesting look at something we all see out of our peripheral vision but we never really notice.
