The images in the series allude to historical sideshow characters and imagined moments in their lives. Captured with wet plate collodion, I have utilized long exposures to create movement, which gives the work an esoteric, spiritual mood. I have chosen to preserve the streaks and shapes created by the developer and silver residue as a means to endow the image with an ethereal atmosphere. These remnants give the work a contemporary feel, creating patterns reminiscent of graffiti, which enhance the elusive quality of the photographs. This results in compelling portraits that are eerie and enigmatic, drawing on both the antiquated style and this modern touch. The
images are enlarged from the original plate into larger prints, intensifying the
surreal qualities of these fanciful vignettes.
